Protecting Your Home During Power Outages

Home Backup Power-Comfort-Security-Convenience

A permanently installed home standby generator from Wilson River Electric gives you seamless protection from unexpected outages. Powered by natural gas or liquid propane (LP), these systems sit outside your home like a central A/C unit and automatically deliver electricity directly into your home’s electrical panel. Whether you want to back up your entire home or only essential circuits, we’ll help you choose the right solution for reliable, worry-free power.

Why Homeowners Trust Standby Power Systems:

Automatic Operation

Your standby generator turns on the moment an outage occurs—whether you’re home, at work, or away on vacation. No manual setup, no scrambling in the dark.

No Refueling Required

Powered by your existing natural gas or LP system, your generator provides long-duration backup power without the need to store or refill gasoline.

Safe, Direct Power to Your Home

Forget extension cords and temporary setups. A professionally installed generator safely delivers power straight to your home’s electrical panel, keeping your essential systems running smoothly.

A Trusted Choice for Home Backup Power

Generac is one of the most widely chosen brands for standby generators, and Wilson River Electric ensures each installation is done to the highest standards for safety, performance, and long-term reliability.

Wilson River Electric is here to assist with product selection, installation, permitting, maintenance, and troubleshooting. When you need help, you get a real technician—right here in your community.

How It Works:

A home standby generator continuously monitors your utility power. When an outage occurs:

  1. It senses the loss of power automatically.

  2. It starts up within seconds.

  3. It delivers backup power to your home’s electrical system.

  4. It continues running until utility power is restored—whether that takes minutes, hours, or weeks.

With a professionally installed system from Wilson River Electric, protecting your home from outages is effortless, automatic, and dependable.

Home Backup Generators: What You Need to Know

Investing in a home standby generator is a big decision—one that provides long-term comfort, safety, and peace of mind. Here’s what homeowners should understand before choosing the right system for their property.

How Do I Choose the Right Generator?

Every home is different, and the generator you need depends on what you want to power during an outage—your whole home or just key essentials.

While online sizing tools can provide a general idea, the most accurate solution is a professional on-site assessment.
Wilson River Electric LLC offers free evaluations, where we review your home’s electrical demands, walk you through available options, and recommend a generator sized specifically for your needs and budget.

What's Involved in Installing a Standby Generator?

A proper installation ensures safety, longevity, and reliable performance. When you choose Wilson River Electric, we handle the entire process, including:

  • Preparing and leveling the installation area
  • Setting the generator in place
  • Running natural gas or LP fuel lines (in coordination with your fuel provider if needed)
  • Installing the automatic transfer switch
  • Completing all electrical connections and code requirements
  • Testing the system to ensure it’s ready for your first outage

We also take care of local permits, inspections, and any necessary panel upgrades.

How Much Will It Cost?

Pricing depends on several factors—generator size, installation complexity, fuel type, and any electrical upgrades required to meet current code.

Wilson River Electric provides transparent, detailed quotes following your in-home assessment, so you know exactly what to expect with no surprises. We offer options to fit a range of needs, from essential-circuit backup to whole-home protection.

How Do I Get Started?

Getting reliable backup power is straightforward:

  1. Schedule a free in-home assessment with Wilson River Electric LLC.

  2. We’ll help you determine the right generator size and model.

  3. You’ll receive a clear estimate and project timeline.

Standby Home Generators

Standby generators, also called whole-home generators, represent the premium backup power option for homeowners serious about power security. These permanently installed units automatically detect power outages and restore electricity to your home within seconds—whether you’re home or away.

Key Advantages:

Automatic Operation: Standby generators monitor your utility power 24/7. When power outages occur, they automatically start and begin powering your home within 10-20 seconds. When utility power returns, they automatically shut down and return to standby mode. No action required from homeowners.

Whole-Home Power: Unlike portable generators that power only a few circuits, properly sized standby generators can power your entire home, including HVAC systems, well pumps, kitchen appliances, security systems, and all lights and outlets.

Permanent Fuel Supply: Standby generators typically run on natural gas or propane from dedicated fuel lines, eliminating the need to store gasoline or manually refuel during power outages.

Weather Protection: Housed in durable, weather-resistant enclosures, standby generators operate reliably in any weather conditions, including the storms that cause power outages.

Quiet Operation: Modern standby generators operate much more quietly than portable units, minimizing noise disruption to your household and neighbors.

Extended Runtime: With connection to natural gas or large propane tanks, standby generators can run indefinitely during prolonged power outages without refueling.

Increased Home Value: A professionally installed standby generator system increases property value and appeal to potential buyers who recognize the importance of backup power.

Smart Technology: Today’s standby generators feature WiFi connectivity, allowing you to monitor system status, receive alerts, and review maintenance schedules from your smartphone—even when you’re away from home.

My HVAC needed servicing. The company that installed my furnace informed me they no longer serviced our area. The original company was meant to get back to me, but did not. I saw a local ad for Wilson River Electric LLC and called. Winter is upon us! Mike(electrician) gave me Billy’s #(HVAC) and he assessed my furnace quickly and discovered more than just cleaning/servicing maintenance. It’s Thanksgiving week. He ordered the motor-still barely under warranty and installed it plus maintenance 11/28-the day after Thanksgiving. He explained everything to me and is doing a follow-up tiny fix. They will be back in the Spring to service my AC. Communication and punctuality were 5 stars.

Understanding Your Backup Power Options

Not all backup power solutions are created equal. Understanding the various backup power options available helps you choose the system that best meets your family’s needs and budget.

Portable Generators

Portable generators represent the most basic backup power option. These gasoline or propane-powered units can be moved and stored when not in use, then deployed during power outages.

Advantages:

  • Lower initial investment
  • Portable for use in multiple locations
  • No installation required

Limitations:

  • Requires manual setup during outages
  • Limited power capacity
  • Must be operated outdoors due to carbon monoxide risks
  • Needs manual refueling
  • Cannot power whole-home electrical systems
  • Noisy operation
  • Requires storage space and maintenance
  • Cannot start automatically when power fails

Portable generators work for occasional, short-term power outages when you’re home to set them up and monitor operation. However, they provide limited power, typically running only a few essential appliances through extension cords—far from a comprehensive solution to power outages.
